Patch 2.2, CD Projekt Red’s impact on Cyberpunk 2077 stretches far beyond any single release, providing global enhancements and features for the player and making the Cyberpunk world feel even more alive, days after its December 10, 2024 release.
Vehicle Customization Expanded
The change expands the CrystalCoat paint system to more vehicles and increases the diversity of custom colors. Using TwinTone, players can now scan and replicate the paint jobs of other cars they see in Night City and transfer those designs to their vehicles.
Improved Character Customization
Character customization has received a huge boost in Patch 2.2, with more than 100 new hairstyles, facial implants, makeup styles, nail polishes, and tattoos. More randomly, a «plain-to-punk» slider has been added to the character creator that allows players to get V exactly as they want him.
Revamped Photo Mode
The photo mode has been revamped for better creative control. Creative frames in which players can place camera angles, lighting setups, and up to three characters — including main story NPCs — thanks to which it is possible to create living images.
Interaction with Johnny Silverhand
One area that stands out the most is the greater incorporation of Johnny Silverhand. Once the first act is over, it may be that during some drives, Johnny appears in the passenger seat for a few minutes, commenting on the place, and the events, and this helps him to relate more and more with the player.
New Vehicles and Gameplay Changes
Autofixer is one of the new additions to the store that expands the list of ten new vehicles, including the Mizutani Shion MZ1 and the Quadra Type-66 640 TS, to help players traverse Night City in style.
The update also fixed several gameplay concerns including police behavior in certain situations and audio not matching with television broadcasts. There are also some performance optimizations, such as improvements on thread distribution where systems employing Intel Arrow Lake processors can experience performance gains of up to 33%.
Crossover Quest
A surprise in the latter category comes as part of Patch 2.2, which adds a crossover quest with the roguelike poker game Balatro. You obtain messages from a character named Jim B to track down Balatro graffiti in Night City. This scavenger hunt in particular grants players a Cyberpunk 2077-style Joker t-shirt and an apartment decoration themed after Balatro, to commemorate the two games working together.
This massive overhaul is simply the next step in CD Projekt Red’s efforts to improve Cyberpunk 2077, with new features that expand the length, scalability, intimacy, and experience of Cyberpunk gameplay experiences.
