Rockstar Games has dropped a new large update for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, primarily aimed at improving the overall experience and fixing some lingering problems.
Among these exciting upgrades is the inclusion:
- Classic Lighting Mode, restoring the original visual game style;
- The visuals have been enhanced: fire and glass-breaking effects, better street lighting, and improved swimming mechanics;
- Rain effects have been improved, which were roundly criticized when the game was first shown off;
- Gameplay changes, such as being able to move while shooting with select heavy weapons (which players couldn’t do in «GTA III» and «Vice City,» originally);
- Fixes and optimizations, several bug fixes for improved stability and performance.
But that update is generating some controversy to pull Grove Street Games’ logo and name off the startup screens. In a thread about the situation on the MMORPG subreddit, Grove Street Games CEO Thomas Williamson blasted Rockstar as the reason for slow-turnaround fixes, adding that the studio’s removal of credits unethical practices.
With «GTA 6» arriving in 2025, this update shows Rockstar is trying to tidy up the remastered trilogy. Rockstar is intent on regaining trust and respect for the legacy of the franchise by doing what good developers do listening to the fans and polishing these classics.
