Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official trailer for the long-awaited live-action «Minecraft» movie, which in theaters on April 4, 2025. The new film adaptation of the beloved sandbox video game promises to bring an adventure to lifelong fans and new players alike.
A Star-Studded Cast
Jack Black will play Steve, the famous hero of the game, and is joined by an all-star cast. With Jason Momoa as Garrett «The Garbage Man» Garrison, Emma Myers as Natalie, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen as Henry. Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement are also cast in undisclosed roles in the film.
Plot Overview
The story centers on four unlikely heroes — Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn — who are transported from their ordinary lives, into the Overworld, a colorful, cubic world where creativity is the ultimate weapon for survival. In the company of master crafter Steve, the guys set off on the journey to find their way home. During their quest, they face off against old foes like Piglins and Zombies that players know from the game.
Graphics & Gameplay
The trailer features a rather impressive recreation of the games signature blocky visuals, immersing watchers in a world of redstone minecarts and crafting tables and ender pearls. It also tips its hat to the ingenuity of the Minecraft community, presenting a machine such as an automatic chicken cooker.
From Idea to Screen
Bringing «Minecraft» to the big screen has been a long journey. The project was originally announced back in 2014 and has seen several delays over the years, including a push from its initial release in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was directed by Jared Hess, who directed «Napoleon Dynamite».
Fan Theories
Different theories have emerged, in which great popularity was gained blue cubes with symbols. Various fans decoded these symbols using Galactic Alphabet and say that they correspond to a materials list to assemble a gate to go back home.
